Davids’s 260Z

Vehicle – 1976 Datsun 260Z
Owner – David Healy

I purchased this vehicle from a keen Nissan Datsun Sports Owners Club member in 2002 in Melbourne, where it had won concourse awards, and had regularly been punted around motorsport events by Rob McAlister. The car was originally an automatic, but was converted to manual along with the following modifications.
• Mild cam, Triple DCOE40 Webers, and extractors.
• Lowered springs with Koni shocks.
• BMW 4 pot calipers on Falcon rotors on the front.
• Skyline discs on the rear.
• LSD 4.11

I used the car as a daily driver for a while. Now it is mainly used for club runs and competition events, notable the Queensland Supersprint Series, and hillclimbs.
In 2004 we breathed some life into the engine with a Racer Brown 369 cam pushing L28 valves, free flowing ports and a cold air intake. On the track we run on Toyo RA1 competition tyres.

Sadly, a few years of motorsport have taken its toll on the engine (still the original bottom end, never been opened). It is time to give the old girl a birthday present. Jim Millner (Smart Automotive) is building a brand new L28 with multiple throttle body injection and Motec engine management. We should have it all sorted and back on the road and track for the 2008 round of motor sport and club events. Watch this space for further developments.
