Member Rides - Jason Hassard's Z's
A bit about each toy 260z.
I purchased the 260z in 1992 for about $1500. It was sporting a L20 6 cylinder engine which had trouble pulling the skin off a custard and the accessories included a spot of rust here and there. Most of the rust was in the rear half so in about 1993 I purchased a good rear half from Alan Steen and had a local panel beater cut the car in half and fit the new rear. At this time the car underwent a complete make over with new metal and paint.
The next problem to solve was the engine. So in 1995 with Alan Steen, as my advisor, I visited a Japanese Engine importer and purchased a L28 with the magic P90 head.
My next move was to have J H H Performance Engineering do some work to the head and fit a lumpy camshaft. The result was amazing.
Other suspension work was carried out by Alan Steen and Fulcrum suspension. However I would have to say that I never really got the suspension right as I only had to look at a corner the back wheels always wanted to come around and talk to the front ones.
Anyway I decided in 2008 that the Z needed a complete strip and rebuild. At this time I have a shed full of Z bits and the body of the car is with a Guru who I am told will rebuilt my car to a object of wonder. It is now some 11 months since I gave him, sorry His Holiness, the car and I am still waiting and waiting and waiting. I take comfort in the thought that the world was not created in a day.
So one day I may have my car backon the road with some luck.
The 300zx is a NA Auto two seater with no mods other than a larger Koyo Radiator. I purchased the car in 2005. It had 91405 kilometers on the clock. As I had no other suitable car I entered It in the NDN09 and gained a second in the sprints. I have no plans for this car other than to drive it on club outings.
The 350Z Roadster I purchased in 2007 over the internet from a person in Sydney. I had the car transported to Brisbane via TNT vehicle Logistics. I have not undertaken any modifications to this car and it is only used for the odd week end drive or Club outing.
