Team McKevans Racing
This is the current status of the Team McKevans Racing project car. The team comprises a partnership between Robin Evans (president) and Mike McKelliget (editor). The car is being built to CAMS Tarmac Rally Car Technical Regulations to run in C3 with the ability to cross over to Group 2B Marque Sorts Cars for circuit racing, hill climbs and sprints. We are aiming to enter the car in the 2007 Suncoast Classic Rally. This will be the inaugural rally event for both car and team but it is hoped to conduct some shake down track testing and events before this rally.
This Zed started life as an early 1974 "lightweight" 260Z. The chassis was laboriously stripped of under sealer and paint then sand blasted to bare metal and etch primed. The shell was relatively rust and dent free but the front chassis rails were removed and replaced by repaired units from a donor car. The shell was fully seam welded and the services of Simon Rhodes was engaged to fabricate a mild steel CAMS compliant roll cage. Robin has performed all the shell preparation, including repair, seam welding and painting, to a meticulous standard which has greatly assisted in cost control. Weight saving and control is being considered throughout all aspectes of the build. The car has progressed into the assembly phase and features fibreglass bonnet, bumpers and rear hatch with Perspex side and rear glass. Running gear is next so watch this space for an update.
